“My paintings are the materialization of my experience of the world. They are the point of collision between the formal elements given by the physicality of the paint itself together with a contemplative state of self-examination. It is through the process of painting that I am able to sublimate the everyday challenges combining complex colors and compositions with intimate sensation such as hope, love and passion.” Dana Blickensderfer
Dana Blickensderfer began her artistic career while working and living in New York City. She is also the founder of Provoke Art and the co-founder of iBoss Ventures, a Tech Startup Incubator Company. She has lived and worked in New York City and Florida. Most recently, she opened the base of her artistic studio in St Petersburg (FL), where she continues to develop and create new paintings and drawings. Each canvas combines aspects of drawing, painting, collage and printmaking, all integrated. Her large scaled canvases illustrate Blickensderfer’s ongoing interest in painting and mark-making while extending her personal lexicon to a wide range of references, including Egyptian art, Arabic symbolism and European modernist painting.
Blickensderfer becomes the bridge between the past and the present, the private and the public, the personal and the universal. In April 2016, her solo exhibition ‘Untitled’ held at the New York Art Expo, presented a distinctive series of 100 drawings questioning notions of identity and representation. Alongside her studio work, Blickensderfer collaborated with New York based artist and filmmaker John Fuentes. It is through this collaboration that she developed her voice in video art and performance art.
In 2018, Blickensderfer received the International Prize Caravaggio – Great Master of Art, Milan by art critic Dott. Salvatore Russo. And in 2014, Blickensderfer was the recipient of the Milton and Sally Avery Scholarship Award to study at the New York Studio School. In 2013, she was a finalist of the Olympics Art Competition in Orlando (Florida) and took part in the Celebration of the Arts Exhibition curated by the Bay Area Museums directors in Tampa. Most recently, Blickensderfer was selected to feature work in a group show at the Jobs Foundation Museum in Palermo, Italy. She is the owner of Provoke Art, a platform aimed at collaborating artists together in a VR online gallery showroom. Other notable mentions, she exhibited work at Art Gallery of Broward College in Miami and the University of South Florida. She is published in the Art International Contemporary Magazine of November/December 2018 issue, the 2018 WeContemporary Art Book, and a featured artist in Panache Vue Magazine, February 2014 Edition.
