Artist Training
Dana Blickensderfer’s most recent developments stem from her studio time at the New York Studio School. For one year Dana trained and studied her craft under International artist and Dean of the school, Graham Nickson amongst other New York Artist such as: Elisa Jensen, Judy Glantzman and Ron Milewicz. NYSS provided the proper artist community for discussion and building of foundational artist techniques to catapult her work to another level.
According to the school, The New York Studio School is committed to giving a significant education to the aspiring artist that can last a lifetime. Their aim is to reveal to the entering student appropriate questions about drawing, painting and sculpture and to encourage them to work hard and think rigorously at all times, enabling them to construct an ethical and philosophical framework for their life’s work.
As a developing artist Dana Blickensderfer is beyond grateful for her time at the studio school and continues to plan to work in connection and collaboration with the schools’ mentors to keep her craft growing and reaching new heights.
Dana Blickensderfer’s Painting Style
Dana Blickensderfer’s work does not desire to be limited or defined to one set language of art. However, she has a strong connection to Abstract Expression and Impressionism movements.
Since the development of Abstract Expressionism around the 1940’s (Post-World War II) pure expression made its debut in the art world, breaking away from still images or realistic styles. This movement allowed artists more freedom in the process to create work without rules and form. The term Abstract alludes to artwork as visual elements of subjects in its lines, shape, pattern, texture, or tones.
Dana’s study of Abstract Art is suggestive in her contemporary work from the expressionism movement of the postmodern era. As her work develops over the course of her career, certain eras of the past and present take shape and intertwine to create her visual artist language and voice. Art language such as color, space, scale, structural compositions, are all thoughtfully weighed into her artwork today.
